Short Take

Cash's first words upon entering our hotel room: "Look! It even has a bathroom!"

Oh yes, little man. Nothing is too good for my boy.

Library Loot – October 15

Library-lootLibrary Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marge that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

I don't go to the library on a weekly basis but I just went yesterday so I thought it'd be fun to share what I got.

Pretty is the new plaid Three Little Words Plan B

Teaser Tuesdays

 Teaser-tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

One for the Money "So far as I could see, he hadn't changed much since sixth grade. He looked like he still couldn't add fractions, and the little metal pull on his zipper was sticking out, creating a tiny tent with his fly."

I love this one – it is so CASH and so WEST. Cash is my tentative sweetie with a shy grin and West is my laugh out loud, boisterous tough guy.

Book Review: This Is Where I Leave You

This Is Where I Leave You This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This Is Where I Leave You follows Judd Foxman and his family as they sit shiva for seven days after Judd’s father dies. The family dynamics of the Foxman family really resonated with me – so real and dysfunctional and heartbreaking and filled with humor that was dry as a bone. I was surprised at how well and realistically the female characters were developed, usually not the case with a male author. This is Tropper’s most recent book and the first of his that I’ve read – I can’t wait to read his earlier books.

Book Review: drink, play, f@#k

Drink, Play, F@#k: One Man's Search for Anything Across Ireland, Las Vegas, and Thailand Drink, Play, F@#k: One Man’s Search for Anything Across Ireland, Las Vegas, and Thailand by Andrew Gottlieb

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
A parody of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love, I found this book to be more mildly amusing than laugh out loud hilarious. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’ve already read Gilbert’s book.

Book Review: Rebel Yell

Rebel Yell: A Novel Rebel Yell: A Novel by Alice Randall

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Rebel Yell opens with Abel Jones Jr. passing away after eating at the Rebel Yell restaurant. After his funeral his first wife Hope reexamines their life together and puts together the pieces to discover the true Abel that she never knew. Both Abel and Hope grapple with issues of race and racial identity and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story. I also liked how the author weaved real historical events throughout. However, some parts of the book were too cryptic for me and I felt like I wasn't understanding everything the author was trying to say.

Ode To Applejacks

Cash composed his first song today which is sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping:

Applejacks, applejacks
From the trees, from the trees
Way up high, in the tree tops
They are Cheerios
They are Cheerios

Short Take

West is spending the night with Grandma tomorrow night. Whenever one of the boys goes to Grandma's house, we try and do something extra special with the boy we have at home with us. I asked Cash what he wanted to do tomorrow night while West was gone and he said, "I want to do something really, really fun that we've never done before. I want to teach Daddy how to ride a unicycle!" That would be really, really fun for Mommy to watch.

Short Take

Cash's new favorite song is Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto.

Or as he calls it Double Ory Aht Mr. Robot.
