More Fun With Granddad

One thing Cash and West were really looking forward to during our stay in Indiana was working with Granddad in his garden. On the drive out, we stopped at Toys R Us in St. Louis to get a new movie for the boys as a reward for making it the halfway point without driving us to the brink of insanity. Right inside the front door was a display of plastic toy gardening tools that the boys went nuts over. We bought them so the boys would have their own tools to help Granddad.

The weather in Indiana turned out to be much colder than expected, around 45-50 degrees. Not ideal planting weather but Granddad was a good sport and let the boys plant all his seeds anyway. They burned through several seed packets in just a few minutes and then raided MaMaw's refrigerator for things to plant. They planted cut up pieces of broccoli, carrots, celery and cauliflower. We'll see how much of that comes up later. Granddad's going to have some explaining to do if all those things aren't growing in the garden next time we visit!

Super Granddad

When we were in Indiana a couple of weeks ago visiting Granddad and MaMaw, one of their neighbors was having his driveway ripped out. The construction workers were using a concrete saw, a tool the boys were not familiar with as toy concrete saws are rare. Lucky for them, Granddad is a master woodworker and has a complete wood shop in his garage. He whipped the boys up two toy concrete saws in all of about 15 minutes. The boys were thrilled.

Sasquatch

West was fit for new shoes last week. He is now just a half-size smaller than Cash. Look at the size of those boats.

Short Take

In the middle of his usual nonstop barrage of questions Cash asked, "What if I had mouths all over my body?"

"I don't know Cash, I guess you'd have mouths all over your body."

"Then I could ask all the questions I need to."

Lord help me if that ever happens.

I Scream, You Scream

Last week the forces of the universe aligned in my favor and I not only heard the ice cream man before he whizzed past our house but I also actually had cash on hand to pay him with. So for the first time ever, the boys got to pick out something from the ice cream man. They were amazed that someone came to our house to give them frozen treats. Cash, ever the neatnik, chose a snow cone. The paper cup contains the drips, keeping one tidy and clean while eating.

West picked out the biggest popsicle I've ever seen. His shirt and shorts were soaking wet with sticky green fluid by the time he was done. I literally had to hose him off in the backyard before he could come in the house.

Short Take

As Travis passed West carrying the toy cash register, Travis commented, "Got the cash register West?"

"No," West replied. "It's a West register."

When the Cat’s Away, Part II

Travis took the boys to the car show while I was at a scrapbooking retreat this weekend. They had a blast and Travis said he "only lost Cash once for a couple of seconds." Great. How about next time making the goal not to lose our children AT ALL.

When The Cat’s Away

The last time I went away for the weekend Cash and Travis made this treasure box out of scrap wood they found in the garage:

I'll be away again this weekend – wonder what they'll come up with this time?
