I took the boys with me to the chiropractor this morning. They were curious why I needed to go and I told them I slept on my neck wrong and it hurt. They said that when we got there, they would show me the proper way to lay down so I wouldn't hurt myself again. They spent the rest of the car ride demonstrating and discussing various sleeping positions. Thanks boys.
Mother's Day got off to a fabulous start with breakfast and presents in bed. The boys each painted a picture for me and Travis gave me a gift certificate to get my Xterra detailed.
Then we continued with our annual Mother's Day photo shoot tradition. The boys held up their end of the tradition by acting like maniacs.
West refused to put down his juice box for even five seconds to get his picture taken.
Cash was pretending to a lizard the entire time. Apparently, a lizard's facial expression looks like he's smelling something bad.
This is the best one of the bunch:
Then West took over the photography and snapped this photo of Mommy:
After the photo shoot, Travis cooked a delicious steak dinner for me, his mom and my mom. His sister Jenny made a yummy salad and dessert and my brother Nicholas brought some great wine. It was a wonderful Mother's Day from start to finish!

Cash wanted to get a picture taken with his "kids". His kids are his lizard Slurpy, his lion Bidey and his dragon Speedy.

The boys got their pictures taken today and were really good for the photographer. She could actually work with them on things like where to place their hands because they were sitting still instead of running after them with the camera while they bounced off the walls like maniacs. I made sure to praise them heartily for how good they were. When we got out to the car, Cash started to act up and I said, "Cash don't ruin the goodness now by acting like that." to which he replied, "Mommy, the GOODNESS ruins the BADNESS." Don't I know it.

Sunday was my birthday. The boys took me out to eat at Red Lobster. Cash had been looking forward to this for a long time and he and I had many discussions over the course of the week about what sea creatures you can't eat (walruses, manatees) versus which ones you can (pretty much everything else).
He decided well ahead of time that he was going to eat clams at Red Lobster. Feeling proud of his adventurousness in food choice, I asked the server if we could substitute clam strips for popcorn shrimp in a kids meal. "No, Mommy – I don't want clam STRIPS, I want CLAMS," came the cry from the other end of the table. I explained to Cash that Red Lobster doesn't serve clams in the shell, they cut it into strips and fry it like chicken nuggets. This led to a meltdown that required sending the server away so we could regroup. I explained to Cash that if he wanted to eat something in the shell, his choices were lobster tail or crab legs. Thankfully, seeing the lobsters in the tank in the lobby dissuaded him from choosing lobster and he has already tried crab legs so he didn't want those. He settled on broiled fish and I made sure to explain to him before the server returned that it would not have the head or tail attached and he was fine with that. Poor guy – he just gets his mind set on something and gets so disappointed when it doesn't turn out like he wants it to.
My mom made
my favorite birthday cake – strawberry. I had to write on it because her hands cramp up when she tries to decorate a cake.
The boys helped me blow out the candles. West employs more of a sprinkler system approach when he blows.
My dad sent me this card – I thought it was pretty appropriate!

West went to the pediatric orthopedist this afternoon and got fitted for a walking boot. It's so cute – just like a grown-up one only smaller.

The doctor's appointment was during nap-time so West was a little grumpy late in the day. He didn't want his picture taken.
But he rallied and found the energy to drive his tractor after dinner. Just call him lead-foot.

I forgot to mention yesterday that the doctor told us West shouldn't walk while he has the splint on because it'll break the splint. Keeping a two-year old off his feet for three days. Right.
To my surprise, West took right away to lolling about on the couch ordering his parents around. He didn't even try to walk today.

I had a meeting this afternoon and Travis had one this evening so I met him and the boys at a restaurant to have dinner and trade off the boys. Travis left for his meeting before the boys and I were finished eating. This restaurant has a bunch of newspaper machines out front with free newspapers inside. The boys like to grab a paper on the way out – it makes them feel grown-up to have their own paper. So West tries to open a machine and the door sticks. He gives the door another good tug and it flies open and then the entire machine topples over onto the sidewalk – and his foot. It all happened so fast that I couldn't get over to him quickly enough to stop it. I knew immediately that this couldn't be good; that machine had to weigh at least 100 pounds. We headed straight from the restaurant to Children's Mercy. Sure enough, it turned out that two of the top bones are broken. He got a pretty yellow splint and then he'll get a cast in a few days when the swelling goes down.
Cash was so excited about West getting an X-ray. He started asking where the X-ray machine was as soon as we walked through the door. After they took the X-ray, Cash could hardly wait for it to be developed. The doctor gave him a copy to keep. He hung it up on his bedroom wall as soon as we got home.

So West wouldn't sit on the mall Easter bunny's lap (yesterday's photo) but he'd sit on this creepy bunny's lap.
