Cash asked me tonight how to make a poached egg. I told him I didn't know; I've never poached an egg before. He told me that when HE poaches an egg, first he poaches it and then he adds jelly, olives and jam and then he puts celery on top. Then he told me when he makes chocolate chip cookies he takes grapes and tangerines and blends them up and then adds yogurt. I predict he will be a future contestant on Top Chef. And WIN.

The boys and I were listening to the oldies station while driving this morning when "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Croft came on. As the words, "See the curtains hanging in the window…" came over the speaker Cash said, "Hey, this song is about windows!", happy that he could relate to something in a grown-up song. "Yep, it sure is," I replied. "Is it about drive-thru windows?", Cash wanted to know. Well, I don't really know what the song it about, I've never listened that closely. But it kind of reminds me of that other song about windmills in your mind so I told him that it was not about drive-thru windows but about windows in the singer's mind. "Is his mind a building?", Cash asked, confused. "No, his mind isn't a building. His mind is his imagination." Symbolism is lost on four-year olds, but nevertheless Cash replied, "Oh, my imagination is called a kind." Well, then I see why you were confused sweetie.

West farted rather loudly when we were walking downstairs today. I looked at him with surprise and said, "What was that?" He exclaimed proudly, "My bottom!" I told him that when your bottom makes a noise like that, it's called a fart. "Was it a puppy?" he said. "No, a fart," I replied. "A kittycat?" "No, a fart silly!" He's taking after his daddy, who attributes all his farts to our cat Leo.

West is obsessed with the book Twas the Night Before Christmas right now. Usually I pack all the Christmas books away with the Christmas decorations so we only have to suffer through reading them at Christmas time. Uh, I mean so we can treasure reading them at Christmas time. Somehow this book was overlooked and we have been reading it before every nap and bedtime for the past month. Nothing fills me with Christmas spirit more than blazing sunshine and 100 degree weather.
What's really funny is that West has no idea who Santa is or what he does, yet he always wants to skip ahead to the pages in the book that have Santa's picture on them. When he sees Santa, he squeals with delight. I think because Santa dresses all in red fur West thinks he's somehow related to Elmo.
Today West asked me if Santa was going to come to our house. I told him that he would come but it's going to be a while. He'll be here in FOUR MONTHS. Then West asked me if Santa was going to put him in a basket when he got here. Like I said, the kid has no idea what Santa does.

Cash decided to draw a series of bugs yesterday. If you look closely at the drawings, you'll see that all of the bugs have smiley faces. Everyone loves a happy cockroach!

This is West (pre-haircut) enjoying a chocolate chip bagel. Eating is a full body experience for him.

West got his first haircut today. I'd been putting it off because he has such cute, curly hair and I was afraid that he would lose all his curls like Cash did. Plus, kids always look so grown-up after their first haircut and West is already growing up way too fast. Here's West before and after:

He does look a lot more grown-up but his curls are still there. I think he looks cuter than ever if that's possible. He was very serious in the chair but he didn't cry at all. Kari, the hairdresser, said he may be one of her best first haircuts ever.

*The title comes from one of my favorite corny jokes.
Person A: "Did you get a haircut?"
Person B: "Nope, I got 'em all cut."

Today I overheard Cash telling West that West needed to "learn to listen to Mommy and do what she asks you to do the first time." Gee, where have I heard that before?

Right before these photos were taken West said, “I wub Cash. I kiss his back.” Right after these photos were taken Cash said, “Yuck, he slobbered all over me Mommy!”
