He’s Not Heavy, He’s My Brother

After lunch, Cash and West were playing and West started crying. I went into the playroom and asked Cash what happened. He said he hit West and asked me if that would make West die. I told Cash probably not but that it still wasn't very nice. Then Cash looked up to our second story railing and asked me jokingly if West fell over the railing if that would make him die. I said that yes, falling two stories would probably kill West. The smile left Cash's face and his eyes welled up with tears. His voice broke as he asked me what we would do if that happened. I told him that we would all be very sad and miss West very much. "Will we get a new West?" Cash asked, a tear rolling down his cheek. "No," I said. "There's only one West and if he dies, he'll be gone forever." At this point Cash was really starting to get upset so I reassured him that the chances that West would fall over our second story railing are very, very slim. I was amazed both with Cash's understanding of death and how much he really does love his brother.

42 Days and Counting

Cash told me that he was going to get me some beer for Christmas. Then he asked me if I liked to drink beer. I said not really because I don't like the taste. He said he was going to get me some good tasting beer. And an ax to split wood with. Looks like it'll be a lumberjack Christmas for me!

Falling Out of Fashion

Falling Out of Fashion by Karen Yampolsky

This book is a fictionalized account of Sassy and Jane magazine founder and editor Jane Pratt’s life, in the same vein as The Devil Wears Prada. The main character is Jill White, the editor and founder of Cheeky (Sassy) magazine and Jill (Jane) magazine. The author was Jane’s assistant for nine years and it is widely rumored that Jane Pratt was the ghostwriter for this book.

I grew up reading Sassy and also read Jane for a while before it got lame so it was really fun reading this book. All the celebrity names have been fictionalized of course, but it is really easy to figure out who they really are. Serena Sax is Courteney Cox and Rory Bellmore is Drew Barrymore for example.

I highly recommend this book for fans of Sassy and/or Jane.

Cash’s Preschool Halloween Party

Cash's school Halloween party was on Friday. Once again it started with Trunk-or-Treat. West busied himself trying to eat all the candy in our bowl before I could hand it out.

Then it was inside for snacks, games and crafts.

Cash didn't want to bob for apples but Mrs. Weatherford was nice let him have an apple anyway.


West wanted to bob for apples and Mrs. Weatherford was nice and let him do it. The two year olds didn't get to bob for apples at their party.

West’s Preschool Halloween Party

West's school Halloween party was on Thursday. It started with Trunk-or-Treat in the parking lot. Some of the parents and grandparents really go all out decorating their trunks. I do not. Here's another mom's trunk:

West was so serious while he was trunk-or-treating.

Then we moved inside for games, crafts and cupcakes.

Peanut Skeleton

On Halloween night, after trick-or-treating and going to our church Halloween party Cash put all of the unsafe candy he got out for the Peanut Skeleton. (West wasn't there – he went home from the Halloween party with Grandma and spent the night at her house.) Then the Peanut Skeleton came and took all the unsafe candy away during the night and left a present in it's place.


It was still dark early in the morning when Cash woke up to see what the Peanut Skeleton had brought for him.


A Matchbox car sized Mater and a Matchbox car flatbed semi-truck!

Trick or Treat

The boys had a blast trick-or-treating last night. The weather was so nice that we kept going until Cash said, "I wish we could go back to our house."

West wants to use the bag that Cash got at school to trick-or-treat with. Cash is telling him, "No way, I'm using it."


Cash decides that he doesn't want to listen to West's whining all night and lets him use the bag so we can take the picture and get moving.

Snowstorm

I turn my back for five freakin' minutes to check my email this morning and all hell breaks loose.

The Ghost of Pumpkins Past

As promised, here are our previous pumpkins. (Keep in mind these pictures were taken before we got our good camera.)

Carvin’ Marvins

Travis helped the boys carve their pumpkins last night. Mommy sorted the pumpkin seeds out of the guts and toasted the seeds while the boys were carving. This year the boys just wanted traditional jack-o-lanterns, but Daddy still managed to be pretty creative with them. With Daddy being an artist, our pumpkins are usually not your typical jack-o-lanterns. I'll post our previous years' pumpkins tomorrow so you can see them.

Cash wanted his pumpkin to have a scary face. He's making a scary face to match his pumpkin.


West wanted his pumpkin to have a happy face. I tried to get West to make a happy face but he was not very cooperative.


When the sun started to go down, we moved the pumpkins to the porch.


Scaaaaaaaaaary….


Happy!


Then it was time for pumpkin seeds. The boys were a little impatient for them to come out of the oven.
