He Made It Out Alive

Cash's last soccer game was last night. Looks like he's pretending that his eye got knocked out this time.

The Midway

This layout is the boys on the rides at the Douglas County Fair, the fair that we went to for the tractor pull. Cash's serious motorcycle face cracks me up.

I used a sketch on this one too.

Another layout from a sketch. We went to the Tractor Pull at the Douglas County Fair in August and it was HOT.

Chuck E. Cheese

Here's a layout I did of the boys' first trip to Chuck E. Cheese. I used a sketch – I'd give credit to the sketch designer but I can't remember where it came from.

Soccer, Before Gooberville

I thought I'd post some pictures of last Monday's soccer game, the game before the tooth incident.

When Travis and Cash showed up to the first soccer practice, the athletic director informed Travis that Travis would be coaching Cash's team. Travis was a little caught off-guard since he hadn't volunteered! Cash doesn't really like sharing his Daddy with the other boys, hence he hangs on Travis during the practices and games and subsequently gets his tooth knocked out!

My Little Heretics

Our lunch conversation today:

Cash: Jesus wrote the Bible Mommy.
Me: Well, Jesus is IN the Bible but someone else wrote it.
Cash: Who wrote it?
Me: A bunch of different people wrote it.
Cash: What were their names?
Me: Uhhhhhh, hmmmm. Well,  maybe someone named John and um, Paul, and umm….It was a long, long, long, long time ago Cash so we don't know all their names.
Cash: I wrote a Bible at my house (when he says his house he means his imaginary purple house in China)
Me: You did? What it's about?
Cash: It's about God. (duh Mommy) I wrote the Bible and my kids wanted to write part of the Bible so I held their hands and helped them.
West: I wrote a Bible too.
Me: You did? What's yours about?
West: Blue

The Tooth Fairy Cometh

When Cash woke up this morning, he found a treasure map under his pillow from the Tooth Fairy. The present she brought was too big to fit under his pillow so she hid it in the living room. He was so excited. Ever since the scavenger hunt for his camping gear, Cash has been asking for another treasure hunt. Cash followed the map downstairs and found…

Cash went to the dentist this morning to get checked out. The dentist x-rayed his mouth and said the permanent tooth bud looked good and that it should grow in in two to three YEARS. Poor Cash – that's a long time to look like a little goober.

Innocence Lost

Cash hit a milestone tonight that I didn't think he'd hit for a long time – he lost his first tooth.

Actually he didn't lose it so much at it was knocked out during his soccer game. Cash was fooling around and hanging on Travis's hands and let go suddenly, causing one of Travis's hands to snap back and hit Cash in the mouth. Travis felt AWFUL. It was just a freak accident. Cash was freaking out too, since we've never talked about the fact that he'll lose teeth or the Tooth Fairy or anything. I thought we could wait a couple of years before bringing that up. After he calmed down and I explained how the whole process works, he was pretty excited about it. When we got home, we put his tooth in an envelope and put it under his pillow:

And in case you were wondering, I did call the dentist. I also called the pediatrician and had one of the other coaches who is a nurse come over and look at Cash. Have you ever seen the show The New Adventures of the Old Christine? Christine is a mom who tries her best, but definitely has her faults. The "mean mommies" at her son's school make her feel inadequate because they are perfect (on the surface anyway) and nothing phases them. I felt like Christine tonight on the sidelines, freaking out and not knowing what to do as all the other moms were shaking their heads at me and telling me it was no big deal, it's just a baby tooth. I hate feeling panicked and unprepared. The dentist does want to see Cash tomorrow to make sure there isn't any damage to the permanent tooth bud.

And I know it may sound melodramatic, but I am mourning this milestone passing. I think we all know milestones are bittersweet to me (that's why poor West didn't get a haircut until he was over two years old) and I have difficulty adapting when things don't go according to plan. I thought Cash losing his first tooth would entail wiggling and anticipation and reading stories about the Tooth Fairy and more wiggling. I'm kind of sad that we didn't get to do all that. I'll get over it though. I went out tonight and got Cash a super cool toy that he's really been wanting for the Tooth Fairy to bring to him. I can't wait to see his face in the morning after he sees it. Stay tuned…

It’s Good To Be Loved

Cash was singing a song about Jesus this afternoon that he learned at his Methodist preschool. I was curious what they've been learning about Jesus so I asked him who Jesus is. He said, "He's someone who loves us." The church that runs the preschool has a new pastor this year (a woman, yay!) so then I asked him if he had chapel today and what the new pastor's name is (because I can't remember). He said, "Her name is Fod." "Fod?" I said, "Are you sure?" "Yeah," Cash replied. "He's someone who loves us too." Cash honey, I think you mean God and I'm pretty sure that's not the new pastor's name.

I Love You Cash

Tonight Cash told me that he didn't like me anymore. This was after he lost his two bedtime stories for A) hitting West and B) bouncing all around while he was pottying and getting pee all over the bathroom. As I was tucking him in, I told him that I still loved him even though he didn't like me right now and he said, "I still don't like you anymore. Just give me a little hug and go down to the kitchen." I asked him if he wanted a hug because he liked me and he said, "No, just give me a tiny hug and go away."
